The Entrance Garden
Renovation of the Entrance Garden began in July 2004 by the Jefferson County Master Gardeners Association. This very special project began in the fall with removal of invasive species and the mapping of existing plant material, resulting in the design of a careful plan that would reflect the unusual needs of the dry, shaded and somewhat sloping site. Plants were generously donated from area businesses and the home gardens of the Master Gardeners, with installation taking place in spring 2005. The Master Gardeners restored the elegant wrought iron gates the following year, a final touch to the overall appearance of the project.

The Master Gardeners have donated over 500 volunteer hours to the realization and ongoing maintenance of the Entrance Garden, and their work certainly shows! There are plants of interest at all seasons of the year, from the earliest flowering bulbs to the last brightly colored foliage of fall. Of particular interest are the gorgeous lilies and roses that fill the garden during the bridal season each year. Visitors to Whitehall are welcome to explore the garden. It begins along Lexington Road, slowly meandering along a dappled path bounded by a woodland border ending at an expanse of lawn.
