Here's one sure way to start your Derby Day with a win! Make reservations now for the 31st Annual Historic Homes Foundation Derby Breakfast, Saturday, May 2, 2009. Historic Farmington will be the site of this popular annual fundraiser, from 9:30 a.m. 12:00 p.m. Farmington is conveniently located near the Watterson Expressway (Interstate 264) at 3033 Bardstown Road in Louisville, Kentucky.
Our sumptuous Southern buffet breakfast is catered by Kroger Catering and Banquet Hall under the guidance of Paul Dowell and includes live music. The tents, food, and open bar service are set beautifully in the lush green ambience of Farmington's gardens. Individual tickets are $100.00 (for members of HHF) and $125.00 (for non members of HHF) with a portion of each ticket tax-deductible. Anticipated attendance is 800 people and reservations are required. A limited number of corporate tents are available for groups of 24 or more.
Farmington, built in 1815, was the ancestral home of John and Lucy Speed. This gracious Jeffersonian home was the center of family life on what was once a 550-acre hemp plantation. Guests attending the breakfast have the opportunity to tour the house and learn about the Speed Family, life on an antebellum Kentucky plantation, and ongoing restoration programs. Farmington was recently awarded the 2003 President's Award of Excellence by the Historical Confederation of Kentucky and the Kentucky History Center for its restoration of the plantation house.
Proceeds from the Derby Breakfast benefit the Historic Homes Foundation, Farmington, Thomas Edison House, and Whitehall. Historic Homes Foundation is dedicated to presenting the history of the Louisville metropolitan area through the exhibition and interpretation of its house museums. For reservations and details on single or group seating, call (502) 899-5079.
